New site

July 27th, 2009

Finally after many months of putting it off I decided to get off my ass and move from blogger, way too many limitations and having to setup hacks to get things working the way I wanted wasn’t helping with the speed of the site etc

I’ve decided to go with Habari as my CMS by recommendation of Michael Flux, its a very light weight, not bloated (Like WordPress), uses modern web technologies and very quick and has an ever growing community of plugins and themes.

The web host I have chosen is Versus Technologies taking advantage of the coupon code over at Michael Flux so far they have everything I need, cheap and excellent support.

The theme I have decided to go with is Green Park 2 by Cordobo which I am editing to suit my needs changed the nav bar to orange (my favorite colour before anybody asks) also lengthened the content area to allow larger pictures and easier to read. This will put me on nicely until I have to time to make my own.

I’ve pointed the domain name to the new site now even though everything isn’t completely finished but this way it allows people to give me feedback if any issues are found, other features like the blogroll, tags and comments etc will be moved over in the coming days.

Many more changes to come over the next few days so bear with me

Issues with site?

June 25th, 2009

Had on and off problems with the sites theme randomly not loading, now I think this is sorted or at least it’s not happened to me in a while can anybody confirm everything is loading ok?

Also noticed an issue with the posting a comments page loading slowly, think I may know the cause of this anybody else experiencing the same issue?

Now that I’m on the topic I have plans to change the theme in the near future to a 3 column theme as this one is starting to feel a little cluttered, I’m also in the process of brushing up on my XHTML and CSS skills so I do plan to completely overhaul the site at some point in the future.

EDIT: Sorted the slow loading pages looks like the script for the hit counter was playing up

Bare with me

March 3rd, 2009

As you can see I’m currently making some site changes decided to stick with blogger as my site host as wordpress blogger import was causing huge problems I’ve managed to find what i think is a nice looking template and fits the sort of things I like to write about etc so over the next day or so there might be the odd thing going weird or dissapearing but should all settle down shortly once I’m happy with everything :)

Feel free to leave comments of what you think.

New site name…

March 1st, 2009

Well I thought that it was time I changed the name of the website as I plan to post about more than just my Japanese progress although thats going to be a big part of it but as I have many loves/ambissions changing the name of my site allows me to blog about much more including my love of Japanese culture (Anime, Manga, way of life etc) and daily life / self improvement.

Will also be moving the site to a new server shortly and migrating to wordpress as its just so much easier to find good templates.

While I’m at it an update on my current anki stats.
